I retired from church music because of toxic people, not the music. I decided the pay was too small and the working hours too great to put up with it any longer. Never been happier.
Speaking for myself, I am always grateful when there are strong singers in the congregation, even if they don't participate more formally in music ministry. We need strong singers in the pews, too, to animate the congregation. It cannot all come top down. Let yourself have a breather. It's OK.So for the first time in a long time, I am singing in the pews and finding myself very conspicuous indeed.
