The Reproaches in Modern Notation?

    I always feel so sheepish coming to the forum with such pathetic requests, but I'm going to ask anyway! Half of my very small choir is really struggling with Fr. Weber's Reproaches and asked if I could possibly provide copies in modern notation. If I take out those who are struggling, I think we are down to 3 "thin" voices. Not ideal. Fr. Weber's advice to me just now was to embrace the square notes, but honestly, that's not going to happen over the next two days. So I come pleading.... Does anyone have the modern notation readily available? If not, I think we will have to drop the chant and sing hymns instead:(

    Ocp has Victoria’s reproaches adapted to English with the chant verses in modern notation. That may be a start if you need to piece something together. They are available for online download (pdf)

    If you have access to a Worship II hymnal there's a pretty good English arrangement there.

    We've used Bruce Ford's English adaptation from the following thread with great success. Modern notation with round notes.

    Copy the page
    Cut the copy into strips
    Tape strips to another sheet of paper
    Add to the existing four lines another line
    Add appropriate key signature

    Francis, shouldn't that key signature include a C sharp as well as the f sharp? (It will take a little explaining to let folks know that the flat indicates a c natural)

    Ah yes forgot about the flats. Will have to delete them. Good catch.

    Love it when a plan comes together!

    Thank you to @francis for the follow through to realise my suggestion
    and make it available for others so quickly,
    and to @janetgorbitz for the QA inspection!

    It is kind of like chant with a training wheel
    (and I have done this for myself sometimes, but not as elegantly as you provided).

    Too bad we cannot (yet) create files with
    secret software instructions so the extras are
    printed using fading ink with timer based on download date!

    I just made this – it combines Victoria's polyphonic Popule meus / Hagios o Theos with Bruce Ford's engraving (modern notes) of the verses with the RM3 text, posted here previously. I think (hope I did not labor in vain!) this is the only free file you'll find with verses in modern notes and Victoria in a matching key.
