I’m borrowing this list for the future. Your oratory and Old St Mary’s in Cincy have inspired us here (well, me anyway). We just did the Byrd Deo gratias a few weeks ago.
Sam, that Bruhns is wonderful. I wish I could hear you play it, but I'll be down the road.
St. Mary's Norwalk:
Propers Josquin, Missa Pange Lingua Offertory motet: Guerrero, Caro mea Communion motet: Josquin (??), Ave verum à 5
The Byrd propers for this feast are wonderful, but we aren't doing them this year. I always think of them every time this part of the calendar rolls around.
Yes, the Bruhns is a lot of fun to play and not terribly difficult. (We had our Mass on Thursday.)
We sang the complete Byrd propers for the feast back in 2024. It was a wonderful change to sing polyphonic propers with everything else in chant instead of vice versa as we usually do for big feasts.
I dream of directing the great Josquin Missa Pange Lingua one day (I've sung it a couple of times). It will take us many weeks of rehearsal but it's well worth it.
