Ambrosian Chant Books Online?
  • Does anyone know if there are any editions of Ambrosian chant online?

Also, if any Ambrosian chant scholars or enthusiasts might be able to refer me to some good scholarly articles on Ambrosian chant, particularly in regard to the differences between the Ambrosian Ingressa and the Roman Introit I would be most grateful.

    Thank you in advance.

Are there any Ambrosian chant scholars on the forum?

Adam, here's one place to begin http://www.cantoambrosiano.com/libro.htm

I've written him in English before.

    And here http://www.cantoambrosiano.com/spartiti.htm

  • Thank you, Kathy. I admire Vianini's youtube recordings, and guessed that he might be the source to go to. Have you deciphered if he has posted a complete Graduale anywhere?

This looks promising. To access the PDFs, registration is apparently required http://www.unipiams.org/en/212

While I have not looked at that link, a friend did and found the books incomplete...

But most of the Ambrosian Vesperale is online, but it is not easy to find...

Below are the file names, the missing part never seemed to be uploaded.

    LiberVesperalisAmbrosiano-I.ParsHyemalis
    LiberVesperalisAmbrosiano-III.PropriumSanctorum
    LiberVesperalisAmbrosiano-IV.CompletoriumEtAppendices

I have just done a search and have not found the files easy to download... Will look again later for working links.

(EDIT) See the message below for the complete file.

    Kathy,

The unipiams.org site looked really promising....so I tried to register.

One is required to fill in the country of origin by choosing a country....alas! There was no entry for "United States" in the drop-down menu.

    Thank you for your efforts.
    Deo gratias!

    joerg,

In a million years, with my complete ignorance of Italian, I would never have recognized "Stati Uniti". It worked!

    Thank you!

Is this the page you're looking for? With principal categories across the top, and secondary categories on the left-hand margin, there's a huge body of music ("spartiti") here...

I did come across that one already (thanks to Protasius & Adam Bartlett's links) and the large books are really fun reading (this helps make sense of them).

I'm still looking for a way to repair dead links from CPDL though, like these.

I have some of those chants... after Easter I could put them on line and you could link to them. I have set them to the Ambrosian Vesperale, this sometimes has melodies different from those used by Viannini.

Also I recall there is another site not linked above will have a look!

    EDIT
Good news, after a search I found this, the old site archived!

I just came across a couple of Ambrosian books, apparently not on the CMAA/Resources page: Antiphonale Missarum… Mediolanensis, 1935
    Liber vesperalis Mediolanensis, 1939.
