Requested traditional and ethnic hymns and other Catholic Music?

I'm building a book for Catholic organists (that will be Fremium - thanks to Adam Wood for the description of the word!) that includes all the things that they need that can be hard to find...hymns such as:

Mother Dear, O Pray For Me
    On This Day
    Mother Beloved
    To Jesus's Heart All Burning

Once again, this is music that has touched the hearts of Catholics and assists you as an organist or music director in providing music for special liturgical occasions.

I would love to have copies of the music....but even if you just have a title, it will be appreciated. We will note your name in the book for helping make this possible.

    What can you suggest?

    Thanks, Mark!

More please. Just think back to the last time you had a request and had to scratch you head thinking, "What's that piece?"

Serdeczna Matko is in fact a hymn to Our Lady of Sorrows, as I recall. I don't know if there was a translation of the original text, but you may wish to look it up.

Bądźże pozdrowiona is another good Polish Eucharistic devotional hymn.

Gwiazdo śliczna is another Polish Marian devotional hymn.

    Hello Frogman!

I enjoyed meeting you at the colloquium last year (I was the one with the baby in tow)
I have a bunch of old music that I have collected over the years. I think it may be the sort of things that you are looking for. I will put a few examples in PDFs at the bottom, and then include a list of others. If you would like me to scan and upload, just let me know which ones you would like.

    Attached will be:
Sweet Sacrament Divine (one of my absolute favorites! Sorry some of the words are cut off, it's the only way I've ever had it.)
O What Could My Jesus Do More
    Ave Maria Bells

I also have, if you are interested:
    Adoro Te, O Panis Coelice
    As we kneel before you
Break Thou the Bread of Life
    Bread of Heaven
Draw Near and Take the Body of the Lord
    Good Night, Sweet Jesus
Hymn Before Communion (Jesus, Jesus, Come to Me
My Song of Today (O How I Love Thee, Jesus) words by St. Therese of the Child Jesus
O Sacred Heart! O Love Divine
O Sacred Heart of Jesus Dear
The Snow Lay on the Ground
    The Old Rugged Cross
Tis the Month of Our Mother

    In Christ,
    Stephanie Brune

My wife, Ellen, really enjoyed the pics of you and your 7 month old, if my memory is working?

Working through this list (These, along with the one already submitted are exactly what I am looking for) I think that I have a couple of them already, BUT I have discovered that there are multiple version out there, so
I would love to see them!

    Adoro Te, O Panis Coelice
    As we kneel before you
Break Thou the Bread of Life
    Bread of Heaven
Draw Near and Take the Body of the Lord
    Good Night, Sweet Jesus
Hymn Before Communion (Jesus, Jesus, Come to Me
My Song of Today (O How I Love Thee, Jesus) words by St. Therese of the Child Jesus
O Sacred Heart! O Love Divine
O Sacred Heart of Jesus Dear
The Snow Lay on the Ground
    The Old Rugged Cross
Tis the Month of Our Mother

I'm going to build this as a pdf book at first, using originals that are readable otherwise trasncribing them, making them available as quick as they come in, and then eventually print it....

All submissions are very welcome, this is fun!

    Hello again!

I am so sorry at my tardiness at posting these hymns. Between a sick baby and house guests, last week was very crazy.
I will post several songs at a time.

    Here are:
    Adoro Te, O Panis Coelice
    As We Kneel Before You
    Bread of Heaven

I can't seem to load anything else today.
Perhaps there is a limit on file upload size per day.
    I will try again tomorrow.
If you need things sooner, or 9321theresa,
    perhaps we could email?
  • "O Maria Bolestiva" is very popular in these parts, as we have a number of Slovak communities in our fold.
I second Chrism's recommendation of "Our Lady of Knock"- I have received that request for a number of funerals.

Thank you for doing this good work!

    1. O Esca Viatorum
    2. Ecce Panis Angelorum (traditional Portuguese melody. If you can compose a Bone Pastor part to complement this, it would be a dream come true.)
    3. Heart of Jesus Meek and Mild
    4. Dios Esta Aqui
    5. Our Lady of Fatima hymn (not sure if this is still under copyright)
    6. Jesus is God (Faber)
    7. O God of Loveliness
    10. Sub Venite
    11. Senor Quien Puede Entrar?
    12. Que Alegria
    13. Una Espiga
    14. Te Ofrecemos Padre Nuestro (Nicaraguan)
    16. Entre Tus Manos

There are a couple of versions of "Lady of Knock" available for free download. A fairly simple arrangement with accompaniment here: http://www.organistjohn.com/SheetMusic.html
And a melody-only version (if someone wants to make their own arrangement) here: http://www.freepdfsheetmusic.com/aboutpdffilesyoudownload.asp?ID=DL02000806

"Hail Glorious St. Patrick" is in the St. Gregory Hymnal.

I have (very occasionally--twice, maybe) had requests for the Irish-language hymn "Ag Criost an siol." I do have a copy around here that I could dig out and scan, if you think it would be useful.

It will be nice to have ethnic/non-English-language hymns in one place. It can be hard for someone who doesn't speak Spanish or Polish or German to search for these things online! And it would be good to have have a smaller "library" in the back of the car for those last minute requests. All those hymnals and photocopies seriously cut into the gas mileage.
  • JaneC,

THANKS! And I would love to have that scan, please.

The book is up to 118 pages and still growing. I hope to begin posting it soon.

This is an excellent project, and for those (like myself) who use weekly music booklets (worship aids) in place of a hymnal or disposable, these hymns are easily integrated into the liturgy. I currently draw slections from the St Gregory Hymnal (an excellent resource) and the Traditional Roman Hymnal (another favorite of EF parishes as well)

The tune of "Ag Chriost an Siol" was composed by Sean O Riada, and is still under copyright. The lyrics are traditional, though.
  • Very rough version of this book is available. Needs a lot of work.

I know this is an old thread but is this project finished, in progress, or abandoned?
  • If someone who downloaded the cot.pdf file could email it to me, I could resurrect this program...
