Psalm 51 discrepancy

    The indications for the Psalm on ASH WEDNESDAY and 1st Sunday of Lent YEAR A are different:

    Ps 51:3-4, 5-6ab, 12-13, 14 and 17 Versus Ps 51:3-4, 5-6, 12-13, 17

    But what is the difference?

    Ash Wednesday, ABC
    Responsorial Psalm
    Ps 51:3-4, 5-6ab, 12-13, 14 and 17
    R. (see 3a) Be merciful, O Lord, for we have sinned.
    Have mercy on me, O God, in your goodness;
    in the greatness of your compassion wipe out my offense.
    Thoroughly wash me from my guilt
    and of my sin cleanse me.
    R. Be merciful, O Lord, for we have sinned.
    For I acknowledge my offense,
    and my sin is before me always:
    “Against you only have I sinned,
    and done what is evil in your sight.”
    R. Be merciful, O Lord, for we have sinned.
    A clean heart create for me, O God,
    and a steadfast spirit renew within me.
    Cast me not out from your presence,
    and your Holy Spirit take not from me.
    R. Be merciful, O Lord, for we have sinned.
    Give me back the joy of your salvation,
    and a willing spirit sustain in me.
    O Lord, open my lips,
    and my mouth shall proclaim your praise.

    I figure typo.
    The NAB has it:
    3 - Have mercy on me, God, in your goodness; in your abundant compassion blot out my offense.
    4 - Wash away all my guilt; from my sin cleanse me.
    5 - For I know my offense; my sin is always before me.
    6 - Against you alone have I sinned; I have done such evil in your sight That you are just in your sentence, blameless when you condemn.
    12- A clean heart create for me, God; renew in me a steadfast spirit.
    13- Do not drive me from your presence, nor take from me your holy spirit.
    14 - Restore my joy in your salvation; sustain in me a willing spirit.
    17- Lord, open my lips; my mouth will proclaim your praise.

    Yeah, 6ab is the culprit, as you can see in G's post. For the Sunday, they were supposed to include the whole verse or perhaps indicated that only a and b were to be read/sung.

    Does anyone have the verses pointed to Psalm 51 that you could send me in a PDF file? I have the new Grail, but will have to scan it in.

    Yes, the indications for the First Sunday of Lent contain a type. The Ordo Lectionum Missae has for both Ash Wednesday and First Sunday of Lent:

    Ps. Resp. Ps. 50, 3-4. 5-6a. 12-13. 14 et 17
    R/ (cf. 3a): Miserere, Domine, quia peccavimus.
