Dear Friends, where could I find liturgical music by R.K> Biggs? I have several of his masses but I am looking for his other choirmusic. Thanks, Dirk, Belgium
I looked through my music library Biggs and all I have are two of his mass settings. Mass in Honor of St. Anthony & Mass in Honor of St. Ignatius of Loyola
Here is a list of all the Biggs liturgical pieces I know of. I'm expecting several Masses in the mail, and will get them up on IMSLP as quickly as I can.
IMSLP now has the Mass in Honor of St. Cecilia, the SATB version of Ignatius, and the SA version of Anthony. It may take a day or so to work through the copyright queue.
I have just discovered the freeware ScanTailor Advanced, and for me it's a game changer in terms of quality. It will take in color TIFFs, deskew, dewarp, despeckle, place your content in the middle of identical sized pages with identical margins, and spit out black-and-white TIFFs which on a Mac can be converted to one pdf with a single click. The scanning process takes a little longer for color, but placement is not as fussy, and post-production is vastly quicker. When I think of all the time I spent mucking with Acrobat to clean up scans.... It will also take color scans from the net and convert them to B/W without losing the staff lines.
If you're sitting on a bunch of pre-V2 music, I'd like to encourage you to scan it and get it up where people can get to it. Especially if they're clean copies, and especially motets. (Masses seem to have a higher survival rate.) I've been seeing a lot of really distressing singer markings in the things I just received, the most novel of which was to mark a cut by accordion-folding the cut page so that it could not be accidentally read.
I've got about 110 Masses here which I hope to work through at about 3 per day. There's a fair bit of 19th-century, though some of that may be a lost cause in terms of getting a useable scan. it's in 3 triage layers, so I might get bogged down eventually.
