Gentle Reminder to Proofread Your Ash Wednesday Worship Aids
  • Avoid awkward typos and get someone else to proofread your Ash Wednesday worship aids (before printing), etc.

Double check to make sure you are spreading ashes. Don’t be this guy…

Every Christmas we jail’d th’incarnate Deity.
  • Every Christmas we jail’d th’incarnate Deity.

When I was in high school one year the the VP was giving his pre-Ash Wednesday liturgy spiel in front of they entire school gathered in the gymnasium (at least 1000 people, mostly immature students) about Ash Wednesday where “we have the spreading of [not ashes]”. Yeah, maybe practice saying ashes if that’s a problem for you.

There’s still a parish in my city that has Bach’s “Air in G String” as a listed option for wedding music despite me sending an email pointing it out.

Also, for the sake of clarity, the aforementioned worship aid isn’t from my parish.

Happened at Notre Dame for First Sunday of Lent one year: "Scapulis suis obumbrabit tibi, et sub pennis ejus sperabis." There was one "n" missing.

    Worst I’ve seen
Ours Were the Griefs He Bore
    typo/auto-correct:
Ours Were the Briefs He Wore

Ah, auto-correct. So far proofreading is safe from being completely taken over by AI it seems.

Printed, “he gathers up the ewes in his arms”
Spoken “he gathers up the eeweez in his arms”
(Me putting my head down and covering my face trying not to burst out laughing.)

Auto-'corrections' in Dutch in our parish:
Met Jezus voel je je vrijdag = With Jesus you feel free (->Friday)
toen Hij ons een Dienaar zondag = when He sent (->Sunday) us a Servant
The danger of hitting 'Enter' for a line break when autocorrect takes this as approving its suggestion.

On a program for a lessons and carols a number a years ago...

    Should have read:

"The Virgin Mary bears the Child Jesus"

    It actually read...

    " The Virgin Mary beats....."

It was the ONLY mistake in the whole program (facepalm).

I’ve shared it before, but I once heard a deacon read for Christ who said, “Into your hands, I condemn my spirit.” I almost fell over the front of the loft.

I always looked forward to hearing about the high priest Anus every year.

I would have just assumed you forgot the the colon. “The Virgin Mary Beats: The Child Jesus”. Sounds like a great album of Catholic easy listening music about the child Jesus.

Those Passion readings are tough. Did you know that Simon was a Korean? And the prisoner Pilate released was Barbasol?

I did not know that. Interesting.

I was told of a reader who announced 'A reading from the book of Maccabees' as 'A reading from the book of Macbeth.'

Computer generated captions for video dialogue are notorious, as in this quip from the Lord's Prayer in a broadcast liturgy: "... and lead a snot into temptation".

Human generated caption disguised as computer generated…
