Vespers for Immaculate Conception
  • I was just asked to accompany First vespers for Immaculate Conception, I've never done this before, does anyone have organ sheet music for this somewhere I can use? I'm not very versed in accompanying psalm verses in such manner...

If you need the psalms written out: I’m on my phone so I hope this works.

  • But in the 1962 rubrics, 1st Vespers of the Immaculate Conception is only a commemoration at 2nd Vespers of the Sunday this year, right? (not saying that OP is following 1962 rubrics, I'm mostly asking for myself)

Is this Novus Ordo "Evening Prayer I" or TLM?

Indeed the 1962 rubrics specify II Advent, but it’s completely bonkers because the Sunday loses out due to a special privilege in occurrence. Gregory DiPippo strongly wants to return to no privilege and in concurrence celebrating Sunday (and in Lent too for Mar 19, 25, or local I class feasts) but: it is less bad when you pray the full office to occasionally follow the normal rules for I Vespers; the 1960 just entirely zapped out of existence Saints Andrew and Thomas this year; Gregory is in a minority for the Immaculate Conception since it introduces yet more confusion into the is it a holy day situation.
  • The priest uses 1962 rubrics, so this Sunday would be normal II Advent with Commemoration of Immaculate Conception?

Oh, in that case sad trombone noises.
  • @MatthewRoth I just heard from them otherwise...
  • We had the same doubt today and the priests running our parish (1962's rubrics) checked with the FSSP and: it should be First Vespers of the Immaculate Conception with Commemoration of the 2nd Sunday of Advent, for the Immaculate Conception it is not just a first class feast, but a privileged first class feast, and thus prevails over the first class 2nd Sunday of Advent. And this one is the only privileged feast during Advent according to 1962's rubrics. So... yes: Divinum Officium got it wrong.

Hope it arrives still on time for you! Here is night time already.

    That’s wrong.

It’s privileged in occurrence only not concurrence by a special rubric (and the ordinary ones for the office per the SSPX ordo).

    DO was right.
  • At a TLM in the Dominican Rite, there was a second oration, but not in the worship aid. Any idea about what might have been commemorated?

The feria of Advent, which unlike in Lent, takes the collect from the previous Sunday (and pre-1960, would have the ordinary Last Gospel).
