Motets that speak of humility or/and condemn pride
  • Hi,

I’m looking for suggestions for any motets that speak of humility, condemn pride, etc.

You might want to ask the administrator to correct the spelling of your topic, so it would attract more responses.
  • Good grief. Thanks! Stupid autocorrect. At least it wasn’t something embarrassing/vulgar. At least I can fix it myself.

Off the top of my head, any of the settings of the Miserere (CPDL has a bunch.) I believe Utendal has a complete setting of the Penitential Psalms, printed in the Denkmaeler Tonkuenst in Oesterreich (when the libraries open again...)

    Magnificat
    Far too many to list
  • 'Lord, For Thy Tender Mercy's Sake' - Farrant
'O Lord, Increase Our (or My) Faith' - Loosemore (sometimes attributed to Gibbons.)

The Utendal volume is DTÖ 138, recent enough to be under copyright, but if you're impatient the 1570 print is at IMSLP.
