Looking for Propers for the Memorial of Saint Jerome
  • Friends, does anyone know of (or want to compose?!) simple English or Latin chants for the Memorial of Saint Jerome? We are doing a regional home school Mass with our bishop next week and I would like to include at least the introit. Only thing is, I am supposed to submit the program to him for review by tomorrow morning...!
  • According to this link: http://www.liturgies.net/Liturgies/Catholic/roman_missal/roman_missal_proper_of_saints.pdf

    this is the introit:
    Blessed indeed is he
    who ponders the law of the Lord day and night:
    he will yield his fruit in due season.

  • Communion:

    Lord God, your words were found and I consumed them;
    your word became the joy and the happiness of my heart.

    Dear Claire,

    The propers you linked to may (or may not) be intended to be sung - a long and complicated story.

    Looking back at the Liber Usualis, the propers for St. Jerome were definitely intended to be sung: those of the "Mass of Doctors of the Church," given on pp. 1190-1193 (PDF pages 1384-1387) of this document:
    http://archive.org/download/TheLiberUsualis1961/liberusualis.pdf

    You can probably Google the texts to get translations.
  • The Gregorian chants for the memorial of S. Hieronymus from the Graduale Romanum:
    IN. In medio Ecclésiae (493)
    GR Os iusti meditabitur (494)
    AL Amavit eum Dominus (495)
    OF Iustus et palma (497)
    CO Fidelis servus et prudens (491), cum Ps. 118

    Examples of simple Latin chants from the Graduale Simplex:
    IN Iustus ut palma (355)
    PSR In medio ecclesiae laudabo te (359)
    AL Os iusti (360)
    OF In caelestibus (363)
    CO Fidelis servus et prudens (364)

    English chants from the Lumen Christi Missal:
    IN In the midst of the Church (# 254, p. 977)
    PSR The judgements of the Lord (#255, p. 977)
    OF The just will flourish (#256, p. 978)
    CO He who ponders (#257, p. 978)

  • Thank you, friends. I think I should go ahead and purchase the Lumen Christi Missal, but is it possible to get an electronic copy of just the propers needed for Saint Jerome from that book?
  • Update: Found "Blessed is he" in the SEP. :)

    Anyone have a setting of or willing to set the Communion (from the New Roman Missal)?

    Lord God, your words were found and I consumed them;
    your word became the joy and the happiness of my heart.
  • A friend has offered to set that one for me...thanks and blessings!
