Gloria (Old Scottish Chant)
  • Though it is probably nothing original, I have put the 'Gloria' of the revised English translation of the Mass to the Old Scottish Chant tune. I'm not sure the origin of this, but I know it was in the 1940 Episcopal Hymnal.

    I always liked it.

  • How Nice!
Now, if it could become ubiquitous we could move from better to best, instead of.....

(I would suggest two or three changes in pointing:
....We bless you, | we.a-| dore you.
....you take away the | sins.of the | world..
....For you alone | are.the | Holy one, etc.
Also, the ritards, etc. might oughtn't to be included owing to their likely resulting in an undesirable indirectness in the desired speech rhythm, and maukish dynamics. Still: kudos for doing this! How do we get it in the next edition of Worship IV????)

To really do it right, the congregation are given the four-part chant and they sing it in harmony, with organ and quire.

    MANY THANKS FOR DOING THIS!
