I recently did an abridged version of Mozart's Requiem in D minor (Introit, Offfertory, Dies Irae, Rex Tremendae, Confutatis, and Lacrimosa) and I got a lot of great feedback from it, so I would like to do something like it again. Does anyone have any idea of Good "Classical" masses to do for a Novus Ordo? A Missa Brevis would be good.
There have been several threads recently about orchestral masses. Bolded are ones done recently at Holy Family in Saint Louis Park.
Here's my classical list so far: Coronation Mass (Mozart)...we're doing this one for Holy Family and are abridging the Benedictus considerably from its already-short-enough form. Sparrow Mass (Mozart) Missa Solemnis in C K337 (Mozart) Missa Brevis in D Major K194 (Mozart) Missa Sancti Nicolai (Haydn) Missa Sancti Gabrielis (Haydn) Kleine Orgelmesse (Haydn) Missa Sancti Raphaelis (M. Haydn—need to buy parts): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgp4uU6YlRw&list=PLA43jlnnERCIO6aOrXKBtOdoqGqxi_90A&index=5 Missa Sancti Leopoldi (M.Haydn): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3-SL8Tkay4&list=PLA43jlnnERCIO6aOrXKBtOdoqGqxi_90A&index=28 Missa Brevis in F Major (Haydn) – Beautiful! Requiem (Faure)...needs textual finagling to work but people love it. Mass No. 2 in G Major (Schubert) Missa Solemnis in D (Sussmayr) Lord Nelson Mass (Haydn)…Long Gloria! Hummel Bb or D Minor
