Psalm 136(135) ...quoniam in aeternum misericordia eius
  • I'm curious if anyone knows of pieces made from this psalm. I have thought for a while that it would be very conducive for a plainchant/polyphony call and response structure. Overall though I can't find anything beyond the antiphon out of the Divine Office or Byzantine chant with drones.

At home when singing Vespers with the family (since not everyone can read yet) we enjoy splitting the verses where I lead the first half and everyone else responds with the second half. That specifically might not be correct but the kids love getting into it.

Are you looking for elaborate performance pieces like the settings by Telemann, Delalande, Schütz and many others? Or for a monodic tune for congregational use? Or for simple homophonic antiphones like the Taizé piece? Or for a falsobordone setting to which you can add breath-taking embellishments?
