Anybody use "clackers" after the Gloria on Holy Thursday?

The Rossini is a very clever piece.

According to legend, Rossini would sing this to his wife from under her window-sill in the middle of the night, and she'd reply in duet. Their neighbors must've loved that.

That there should be a place in which it is not used which is not Anglican seems highly eccentric to me.

    Fixed that for you!

My initial idea is one where I would carve four angels at each corner holding up the deceased.

This isn't something where I'll need to place the processional crucifix at the correct angle intercepting the sun so that the lid of the catafalque will open, is it?

  • Well... a parishioner who has some good woodworking skills made a simple "claquoir" that was used last night. (We had tried out the "ratchet" type on Holy Thursday...)

I found that sound of that more simpler design preferable to the "ratchet" sound (which tended to remind me of those toys sometimes used on New Year's Eve as noisemakers). It was used during the procession bringing the Blessed Sacrament back into the church (as the Vexilla Regis was chanted) last night (and again as the Blessed Sacrament was returned to the side chapel in silence).

(I have nothing to add to the catafalque discussion... ha)

"remind me of those toys sometimes used ... as noisemakers" Yes they are identical, and should therefor only be deployed by a mature and responsible altar server.
Courtesy of Google, I see that they are also used in Jewish liturgy, on Purim a month before Passover, to make a noise every time the name of Haman is mentioned in the readings from the book of Esther. I gather that all members of the congregation are encouraged to deploy them. Evidently there is no equivalent of CDWDS issuing directives like 'the congregation should not participate in the Crowd portions of the Passion Reading'

    Sigh.
    My cedar-wood-block and shaped-two-by-four
was tucked into the organ console corner at the upper end of the pedal board
and I forgot to deploy it into the sanctuary for altar server use.

Sorry for the delay on the prototype crotalus... I got an invitation a few days later from when I posted this to be the guest artist in Yellowstone National Park in July and I just finished that gig. I am now finishing up the prototype and will post photos and video shortly.

…guest artist in Yellowstone National Park…

You just caught my attention: what is the venue, and what is the instrument like?

    (Block quote above now fixed)
I assumed Francis went to Yellowstone as an organist. A crotalist-in-residence gig would be far more intriguing!

no guys... i was a guest artist as a sculptor and selling my wildlife puzzles and toys... the crotalus was not finished until I came back... finished the PROTOTYPE crotalus this past week.

(i have about ten careers... [maker of fine rosaries, woodcrafting, toy and puzzle designer and manufacturer, graphic artist of print and social media, marcom professional, choirmaster/organist, conductor, composer, music publisher, music production (i.e, video scoring, soundtracks, etc.), performer of background piano music (jazz, standards, classic rock in a classy style, playing at restaurants, airports, art galleries, etc.) UI and software designer, illustrator of patterns and tesselations for textiles, homeware, etc.]) ...o... and if you need me, i do interior and exterior painting.

...most of these efforts have a website attached to them which you can easily find if you google my name.

the show in Yellowstone was for my recent startup which has been going two or three years now, Teton Craft Works LLC.

This is my first religious sculpture I just completed this year: http://tetoncraftworks.com/sacred-icon

However, so you all know, my very first and most favorite career is in sacred music... (the real kind with GC, polyphony and organ preferably for the traditional Catholic Mass)

Francis, apparently the good Lord just dumps all sorts of talent on some folks. I'm glad that you're one of them.
