help with Sanctus
  • Ave Maria!
I've just started to play the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BF2Uh4UhSwQ&feature=related
What does "+ Ped" mean? and in what scale or mode is this song/chant? and how do you play "mp" and "p" on an organ?
  • In this example, "+ Ped" means that the bottom bass notes on the bass staff are played on the pedals with the feet (if there are even any pedals available on the organ that you're playing on). Mezzo-piano and piano dynamics can be accomplished through a soft organ registration (the choosing and combining of the stops on the organ).

Looks and sounds F major, based on the original Missa de Angelis Sanctus which is in mode VI.

On a side note, I really like that sanctus! Based strongly on chant, yet new as well!

is it just me or does the first and second part of the intro have diffeent organ sound. it's not just a matter of volume?
at 0:18 in the video when they sing "Lord God..." you have an Eighth note and dotted Half note that''s supposed to be played at the same time. how do you actually do that?
and why does this chant/song have normal musical notation and not other notations like in this Sanctus?: http://www.antoinedanielmass.org/organ_accompaniments/08_Sanctus.pdf

It was probably an artistic decision that the organist or director made.

In measure 5, you would hold down the F on beat one for three beats while playing the other notes.

The main differences are really just the stems and bar lines. If you erased the stems and replaced the bar lines with the pauses, it'd probably be the same thing. Things like that are up to the discretion of the arranger.
