While this topic is about a non-Catholic style of religious music, a few readers may take an interest.

A new faculty member at my school, Dr. Tom Malone, recently completed his dissertation on the American shape-note hymn tradition, and is involved with a project to publish new works in the same style as in the famous Sacred Harp songbook. The Trumpet is issued three times a year in PDF form, and nearly all the hymns in it are published under Creative Commons licenses.

Interested folks in New England are invited to participate in a sing for these new songs at the university this Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, from 1 to 5 pm, at our music building, Durgin Hall, 35 Wilder St., Lowell, MA.
