Does it apply to all vernacular song?

"It is important to note that a text which is sung is more deeply engraved in the memory than when it is read, which means that it is necessary to be demanding about the biblical and liturgical inspiration and the literary quality of texts which are meant to be sung."

Varietates Legitimae Fourth Instruction for the Right Application of the Conciliar Constitution on the Liturgy (Nos. 37-40)Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments on March 29, 1994

To steal from Fr. Z, "But Father, we love to sing....[insert your choice]"

    If it doesn't, it should!

Just think of the deep seated immoral BELIEFs that have been introduced and inculcated into society by Rock'n'Roll lyrics over the last 50+ years. It more than proves the point.
The history of heretics using "hymns" goes all the way back to the time of St. Ambrose.
If we don't learn from the past, we are doomed to repeat past mistakes. I think this must be a quote, but I don't know who said it.

    Kyrie eleison.
