Polyphony for Easter to Pentecost
  • I am looking for easy polyphony for the paschal season for our new schola.
  • Hi Ralph -

What is the vocal makeup of it? SATB, or SAB, or SAT?

I have a couple things in mind ...
  • all of the above could work
  • Ralph -

Also - Maria Magdalene, by Gabrieli. This is SATB, but not terribly hard. It is NOT on CPDL, but if you google it and look around, I know it is one someones website as a PDF, because I found it last year.

Also - If Ye Love Me, by Thomas Tallis. On CPDL it is a 4 part arrangement, but GIA publishes an SAB setting of it which the editor claims is more accurate.

How are things going at your parish? Are your numbers increasing due to what is going on in that diocese?
  • Thanks Paix: I am not familiar with the SAB Byrd.
Numbers at the parish have not increased as the nearest parishes have not yet closed. 41 closings and 18 mergers!
But choir membership has increased since we have structured the choir as a schola . Local newspapers have helped us and we have distributed brochures for publicity and for instruction regarding the use of chants, and Latin for our parish.
    Paix, have we met before?
  • Ralph -

We've more than met before ... I'm sending you an e-mail.
  • So are you my long lost brother Ernest?
