    We did not celebrate this, Not preferential and rather : who needs this addition to the church calendar? We preferred the Sunday of the liturgical year. What did others do?

    Is the status of this any more than a votive Mass, with a suggestion that it be used on September 1st (which was a Tuesday)?

    That "Mass for the Care of Creation" or whatever it's called is supposed to be a Mass for Various Needs and Occasions, which on a green (ba dum tss) Sunday is permissible only with the direction or permission of the ordinary. The "World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation" on September 1 is not a liturgical observance but more like "World Day of Prayer for Vocations" on IV Easter. You don't have to do diddly squat with it. My then-bishop permitted its use one year when September 1 fell on a Sunday; we didn't do it, nor did really anyone else that I know.

    The ‘Festival of Creation in Christ’, observed on the first Sunday of September, was only introduced into the Anglican Church calendar in 2026. The Roman Catholic Church never added such a liturgical observance to its liturgical calendar. It’s possible, however, to use the ‘Mass for the Care of Creation’ when a celebration using a formulary from Masses for Various Needs and Occasions is permitted.

    The ‘Festival of Creation in Christ’, seems to stem from a proposal of the Orthodox Ecumenical Patriarch in 1989. It has been adopted into the Revised Common Lectionary, and presumably the churches which use that. It has received favourable mention from the Vatican, but afaik there are no directives.

    No. There are multiple independent ecumenical initiatives drawing on the original 1980' Orthodox inspiration. https://seasonofcreation.org is one of them (a rather maximalist one), https://www.feastofcreation.com yet another. Then there are various churches officially joining the movement and giving the season or feast day some sort of official status.
