Thoughts on Resurrecting the Melchizedek Alleluia?

    I was perusing through Glory & Praise, Volume 2 when I came across an old traditional Gospel Acclamation, the Melchizedek Alleluia. For those not familiar with it I’ve included the organ accompaniment with the choral arrangement and a recording of it.

    I don’t think congregations are getting sufficient experience singing on the off beat, which ultimately leads to train wrecks when they try to sing For All the Saints and other hymns set to the same hymn tune.

    I think the tambourine is a bit too much. I don’t think this syncopated rhythm with the guitar was the original intention.

    What are y’all’s thoughts on bringing this classic back to life?

    I wouldn't think that it qualifies as old, nor traditional.

    Though I have a guilty soft spot for the Gloria from the obsolete Mass in A-minor by the late Joe Zsigray, Glory & Praise is happily well on its way out the door.

    No, it’s not. It’s still going strong back at the parish I grew up in. New cathedral, old hymnals. Zsigray’s psalms still (literally) resound in booming loudness.

    I had to sing that psalm at a wedding this year (don’t agree to things unless you know the rep ahead of time). It barely qualifies as music.

    Sponsa, are you on this forum just to create controversy? Are you trying to covert trads? Or just troll them?

    That is hardly the way things are trending in parishes across the US.

    Not all Catholic parishes are in the US. I am not in the US.
