    Hello everyone, I have created an email-based Google group to serve as a place to promote study, scholarship, interpretation, history, transcription, singing, and employment of Cantilena Romana, commonly referred to Old-Roman chant. It is my hope that we will transcribe more Old Roman chant and sing it in our parishes to the extent that we can, and this group would serve as a place for us to connect and help each other out.     Thanks for the link. I had ran across that forum before, but I saw that it hasn’t been active since 2022, and that a lot of the posts were in French, I figured a new group could do well.

    In a previous article in Plainsong and Medieval Music the author demonstrated that the medial characteristics disappeared in the same texts in the Gregorian repertoire. In her comparisons of Old Roman and Gregorian sources Rebecca Maloy comes to a completely different conclusion. She argues that the so-called „Old Roman“ melodies are late medieval creations and she characterizes them with the negative term ‘formulaicism’.
