I recently updated the A Parish Inheritance project by creating a centralized resource page containing all of the supporting documents, templates, examples, and AI workflow instructions used in the hymn analysis framework.

    Resources include:

    What Is a Catholic Hymn?
A Pastoral Look at the Hymns We Sing: Past and Present
    Appendix D: Hymn Analysis Template
    Appendix E: Sample Hymn Analyses
AI Analysis Guide for Liturgical Hymnody

The framework is designed as a formation tool for pastors, musicians, and parish leaders interested in evaluating hymn texts according to Catholic doctrinal and liturgical criteria. The AI guide demonstrates how large language models can be used as research assistants while keeping the Church's principles and human discernment at the center of the process.
Those interested can find the resources here:

AI Tools for A Parish Inheritance

I welcome feedback from members and hope these materials contribute to ongoing discussions about Catholic hymnody, sacred music, and parish formation.

I have very real doubts about the ability of AI to analyze theological or spiritual content... but it probably could do a reasonable job of looking at things like how frequently / rarely are various concepts represented in our music selections. This could help show where something is out of balance in music selection/programming. As an example if the communion hymns very frequently use meal like language but rarely have anything about sacrifice.

If you haven't already done so, please consider making some reference to this:

@StephenMatthew checkout A Parish Inheritance this my Hymnological study of my Parish of St. Mary's in Akron, Ohio. Within the document you'll find the first document What Is A Catholic Hymn?

This is doctrinally grounded definition of a Catholic hymn using the Catechism, GIRM, and Cathoilc Hymnody at the Service of the Church. You'll also find the companion document A Pastoral Look at the Hymns We Sing: Past and Present-A Parish hymn study.

From these two documents I synthesize a C1-C4 category for identifying Catholic hymnody, Liturgical, Devotional, Protestant Origin, and Not Suitable. This project is a wonderful tool for pastors, music ministry, liturgical planners to identify and determine if hymns are suitable for Mass. I have developed hymn analysis templates that can be used with Ai.
