Fulton Sheen

One of the candidates being received at my parish has chosen Fulton Sheen as his confirmation saint. I am hesitant to add his name into the litany, as he is not yet beatified. I was directed to do so, and to invoke him as "blessed," but I don't feel quite right about it. I was under the impression that only once a person is beatified is he able to be invoked publicly in the Universal Church. Besides that, invoking him as "blessed" prematurely seems a bit dishonest. Thoughts?

This article from Adoremus should shed some light.
Nevertheless, only “those servants of God may be venerated by public cult who have been numbered by ecclesiastical authority among the Saints or the Blessed” (CIC 1187).
In short, no, he may only be privately venerated, not publicly.

... I had been wondering the same thing, to be honest. Makes sense.
