New Hymn Text — “Jesus, I love Thee”

From a spontaneous prayer during the Elevation this morning.

    Jesus, I love Thee,
    so far above me,
    and yet beside me
    to love and guide me.

    Meet, Lord, my weakness
    with Thine own meekness :
    do not condemn me,
    but gently win me.

    O Jesus show me,
    though I am lowly,
    though I learn slowly,
    how best to know Thee.

    Lord, let me borrow
    strength from Thy sorrow,
    joy in Thy Passion
    when life is ashen.

    O Jesus, hear me,
    when I am weary,
    be ever near me,
    with grace to cheer me.

    Lord, though all heedless
    I make such needless
    crosses and bear them,
    I beg Thee, share them.

    Jesus, befriend me,
when death would end me :
    with love enfold me,
    let me behold Thee.

    Amen.

    What tune?

  • I love this. It clearly conveys a mature faith, but with the innocence and simplicity like that of children. I especially relate to this verse:

    Lord, though all heedless
    I make such needless
    crosses and bear them,
    I beg Thee, share them.

Well done good friend! Are we permitted to compose for this?

Thank you, Matt -- yes, compose away!!

The theme of being as a child had been on my heart that Sunday and I thought it came through in the prayer too. Pretty neat that you latched onto that as well.

To answer dannyboi's question, a good tune eludes me -- Matt will hopefully make one!
