I would like to work on IPA with my choirs, especially my youth choir, and am looking for some resources for teaching it. Does anybody have any favorites? My kids can earn "Cabrini Cash" by doing homework stuff so worksheets are great. I want to do it with the Adult Choir as well but they won't do worksheets. Haha. I'll also be having them write out some of their non-English texts in IPA similar to what my Spanish phonetics professor made me do in college.
I know a former professor of mine, formerly of Bowling Green State University, has made quite a few of his own worksheets for IPA. Try reaching out to Dr. Timothy Cloeter to see if he'll share those with you. masterworkstoledo@gmail.com
I use the TypeIt keyboard even when I am on my phone to write comments including here. Great resource.
Also note that the vowels in particular can be interpreted differently even with the same symbol. I listened to an otherwise excellent vocal teacher from Italy, and her vowels…let’s just say you’ll be getting people saying « Mario » perfectly if you follow some of her videos too well (the exercises themselves are usually very good). In contrast I heard a French choir sing with balances and not too forward or bright intonation and closer to what I expect from the best pro early-music choirs in the Anglosphere: their velars (despite French having one fewer native sound than English) and vowels are too forward for Latin IMHO.
