Is Anima Christi appropriate at offertory? Why/why not?

It’s not explicitly a communion prayer but it could be considered as such, so I’d go 50-50 on whether it’s appropriate there. What is less appropriate is an explicitly Eucharistic text including a communion antiphon from the psalms or the gospel in motet form (Gustate et videte and the like).

Not really. It’s located in the section of “prayers for after communion” in all the hand missals I own. I’ve never seen it in the “prayers before communion” section. It’s most appropriate to sing it during communion after everyone has received.

That level of detail is why they invented the NO.

Some people think any hymn can be done anywhere… some people think any of the 18 masses in the Kyriale can be done anywhere and even mixed and matched. Others are very particular.

Oh, francis! I like that idea.... Maybe even a rotating schedule of the Ordinary....

Week 1- Kyrie I, Gloria II, Credo I, Sanctus III, Agnus IV
Week 2- Kyrie V, Gloria VI, Credo II, Sanctus VII, Agnus VIII
Week 3- Kyrie IX, Gloria X, Credo III, Sanctus XI, Agnus XII
    Etc ..

    (Wink, wink)
