For Offertory we've done Marenzio and Philips' splendid 5vv motet (I now see another, for 8vv), but our go-to is Palestrina, oddly easier than Lasso's even verse setting. Someday I'll have to investigate Victoria. I'm starting to see why we've missed Muelas.

I am thoroughly looking forward to breaking out Fr. Xavier Witt's "Meditabor" this Sunday. Such a divine piece...

Reading the above. I'm reminded of an old Peanuts cartoon where Linus and Charlie Brown are looking up at the clouds and commenting on what they see. Linus sees great detailed historical tableaux (Stoning of Stephen, IIRC) and Charlie Brown says, "I see a duckie."

This week's duckie at St. Mary Akron isn't so bad though. It's just ducky, one might say:
Processional: Jesus meek and lowly (ST. MARTIN)
    Asperges
    Missa seraphica (Burgess/anon), Credo II
Gregorian proper (psalm-toned Tract and Gradual verse 'cause this priest likes it that way)
Offertory: Jesu Dulcis memoria (chorale, Cologne 1619)
    Communion: Ave Verum Corpus (Byrd)
Recessional: God of mercy and compassion
    Benedicamus Domino Mass 17

All of which is better than last week, where the priest du jour was so ill that he had to do a Low Mass. We worked in our hymns and motets.

Polyphony is getting organ, so sue me. First time through the Burgess (which might otherwise be unaccompanied. I'm about 4 singers short of doing any but the simplest polyphony a cappella.

We'll use section III (mm. 128-186) for Offertory and section IV (mm.187-255) for Communion of this motet — that rare bird, a Transfiguration motet without alleluias...
