The Church Music Association of America is delighted to announce that finishing touches are being put on the next book in our Parish Book of Motets series, this time for 3-part music.
The collection, edited by Dr. Aaron James, includes: - 23 motets from the treasury, including compositions by Lassus, Isaac, Obrecht, Parsons, Palestrina, and many others - 5 newly commissioned motets from Frank La Rocca, Christopher Mueller, Mark Nowakowski, Diana Corliss, and Peter Togni - Motets appear in BOTH SAB(ar) and ATB editions, lending more flexibility for your choir - Keyboard reductions book available
The book will again be accompanied by an excellent website resource with links to each piece which include a PDF of the score (in the creative commons), recordings of individual parts, all parts together, and muted parts, and text with translation for you to copy into your worship aid.
We hope that this forthcoming publication fills the need that so many choirs have for music with limited forces.
We will post again here when we are ready to take orders. We expect to go to print in the next week or so.
Members can see a sample now in the latest issue of Sacred Music (v. 152, n. 3), which is available on-line through the member portal, https://connect.churchmusicassociation.org/
The Guerrero and Palestrina titles are backwards. That is, the primi toni is given for Guerrero on the site, but the score says sexti Toni and vice versa. And the Obrecht score is replaced with the Puer Natus (Looking at ATB only in both cases.)
A huge thank you to the whole team here at CMAA who works hard to bring about these excellent books!
Editor extraordinaire: Dr. Aaron James Terrific typesetter: Mary Weaver Wonderful webmaster and brilliant back-end magician: Richard Chonak Ingenious and industrious internet guru: Dr. Nathan Knutson Our savvy social media manager: Abby Church The CMAA's invaluable institutional memory on projects: Janet Gorbitz Gracious and generous new general manager, managing all the ropes: Alysia Ladner And our beneficent benefactor!
It takes a lot of work and hours to bring these projects together. This one has been in the works for about a year! We hope it bears much fruit for the good of souls.
I'm so grateful to work with a team of such kind, generous, and smart musicians who do this work for love of God and neighbor. The CMAA is a great place to meet and collaborate with colleagues.
If you're interested in getting involved with CMAA publications at all, please send me a DM and let me know what your strengths are that you'd like to offer. There's room for more hands to make light work!
