I had the privilege of attending the Summorum Pontificum pilgrimage Vespers and Mass this past weekend (October/2025). Does anyone know anything about the choir? I was wondering if it was the same group for the Mass as for the Vespers (I assume so) and if they were individuals or an actual choir. I was also curious as to whether the choir for Mass was one that is a "Vatican choir" so to speak, in that they always are the ones to provide music at St. Peters or a group that was hired for this weekend.
  • I was there at both services. So beautiful!
The program listed the musicians for both as the capella musicale at S Maria ad martires at the pantheon.
The pilgrimage was well worth the trip.
A 98 year old Albanian cardinal spoke afterwards and recited a long prayer to St Michael after Mass.
  • I was there too! Yes, it was the choir from the Pantheon. I was especially impressed by the congregational singing at both of those liturgies. But the best chanting I heard all weekend was at the morning Mass on Sunday at San Giovanni Battista dei Fiorentini. Very nice semi-Cardinian chanting of the propers as a solo by the female alto.

  • Ha, I was at San Giovanni on Sunday too, and agree the solo female chanting was lovely.
Any idea on the Mass ordinary? I was guessing something early like Des Prez or Brumel.

Also heard some delightful organ playing at SS Trinita for low Mass, I think that was Thursday. There was a portatif type organ next to the sanctuary

He recited the long form exorcism of the St. Michael Prayer written by Pope Leo XIII after he had horrid vision about the Church. It was recited to exorcise the evil and sacrilege that has recently taken place in St. Peter’s

  • Re: Brumel, I actually had the opposite feeling, that it was something late but stile antico like Lotti or Casciolini. I have a terrible memory for music, but I think it might have been this one:
