Score for this piece somewhere?
  • A parishioner has asked me to find a score for the specific arrangement (violin and piano) of the Ave as found in the video linked below. I figured I'd ask around here before I did the digging myself. No, it is not for the purposes of liturgical use! Still not sure how to do links here, apologies if the link below doesn't function properly...

There are a bunch of arrangements of the Vavilov "Caccini" Ave here, but none of them quite match in the piano figuration

I also looked at what had previews available on jwpepper.com and didn't find a match there.

It's a very effective accompaniment, compared to most of what I found.

Susdem: the link works if you copy it into the browser. Forum links don't work unless you make them into links ( as in [lessthan]a href="URL"[greaterthan]what shows in your post{lessthan]/a[greaterthan] ) Or highlight and hit the URL button (2nd from right, above.)

I suspect that they made their own arrangement for this recital. The piece is typically in G minor, but here it's been transposed into E minor, presumably to ring better on the violin.

The piano part (disregarding its transposition) hews pretty close to the piano part in a score that a Russian harpist gave to me many years ago (which edition I take as something like original source material, with its Cyrillic text).
  • Somehow, all of the background of this had escaped me until now.
