I’m very curious to which chants are on the list designated as “unapproved by exorcists”?

It is a clickbait slop title of the highest order. Floriani ought to be ashamed.
  • I have been warned by several priests that anything that says exorcist approved stay away from- either its false and even if it is true, those prayers are for priests. there has been a recent movement for lay people to say liberation prayers but it is not advisable to do. Just stick with the short St. Michael prayer, bless yourself with holy water, say an act of contrition, frequent the sacraments, you will be fine :)

Well yes. But it wasn’t a mistake. I find “fixed it for you” grating.

Sorry to grate! I meant it in good humor -- your statement was accurate, of course.

@monasteryliturgist: The great moral theologian Prümmer, O.P., says "Private exorcism may be performed by anyone" (Handbook of Moral Theology).

Ratzinger (on behalf of the Church) says the lay faithful should not pray prayers of exorcism: https://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_19850924_exorcism_en.html
  • @Gremeia Well I cant speak on Prummer since I have not studied him well enough (We mostly stick with La Grange, Marin, and Fabro in the Thomist School). But I have spoken to several exorcist priests and they all had the same answer.

One exorcist told me, It falls under the category of prudence, when you take into account what you are dealing with. He also said, the best form of exorcism is the confessional. Holy Water has purgative power, and so does acts of charity, and fasting. And in fact, they have more power than deliverance prayers, which is why if a person is possessed they are counseled toward those acts in the process, they have greater sanctifying value.

For me, I would err on the safe side. But anyone is free to do as counseled by their spiritual father or confessor.

A prudent rule of thumb: avoid any source that/who treats the issue of the demonic as anything even remotely adjacent to something that attracts attention/traffic, et cet.
  • It has often been said that one of the tacticts of the devil is to get people interested in exorcism, etc under the guise of praying but it leads to curiosity... and if your grandma taught you well, we all know what killed the cat :)
