Saint Patrick Parish in London is seeking an individual to serve as the full-time Liturgical Music Director and Organist, adhering to the Liturgical Guidelines of the Diocese of Columbus and the direction of the Pastor/Parish Administrator to provide musical accompaniments for all liturgical ceremonies, including, but not limited to: Parish weekend liturgies, Weddings, Funerals, Holy Days, Penance Services, Evening Prayer, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion. Practicing Catholic applicants are preferred (not required). This position is eligible for Diocesan Health Insurance Benefits.
Job Responsibilities The individual applying for this position would perform the following responsibilities:
1. Work in close cooperation with the pastor and the Diocesan Divine Worship Office.
2. Recruit, develop, direct and rehearse, adult, children and funeral choirs.
3. Research, review, and order new music for choirs; oversee the organization and maintenance of the music library.
4. Develop cantor program and train and rehearse new cantors.
5. Compile, type and duplicate liturgy planners and cantor schedules for all liturgies.
6. Provide music for instrumentalists and rehearse as needed.
7. Maintain the parish instruments.
8. Provide worship aids for all liturgical celebrations.
9. Procure and maintain copyright permissions for all reprinted music.
10. The parish will support the successful candidate in pursuit of professional development. These include but are not limited to, the purchasing and review of new music, maintain a current knowledge of the field with the aid of periodicals and journals, and the attendance of masterclasses, workshops, festivals, and conferences.
11. Maintain hymn boards.
12. Additional income available with funeral Masses, as well as assist wedding couples with music planning according to appropriate guidelines and providing organ accompaniment
13. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential.
Required: Compliance with BCI&I background checks and completion of Protecting God's Children program.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
Experience: Minimum 3 years parish music experience or similar experience required. Competence in organ performance is essential.
Job Related Skills: Knowledge of all Catholic liturgical music documents and Catholic liturgy required; proficiency in organ and keyboard skills. Familiarity of the Liturgical Guidelines of the Diocese of Columbus with principles and dimensions of the catholic faith formation; proven administrative skills including basic computer skills, interpersonal relations, conflict resolution, management and supervision, visioning and planning, budget preparation and collaborative minister.
Interpersonal Skills: The ability to work with others in a collaborative team environment.
About St. Patrick Parish St. Patrick Church is a parish of the Diocese of Columbus and is located just two blocks from downtown London, OH, which is the capital seat of Madison County. We are about a 30-minute drive from west Columbus, Hilliard, and Grove City; and about a 30-minute drive east of Springfield and Urbana. We have a parish population of around 400 registered families. About our Church Pipe Organ St. Patrick Parish boasts a two-manual, 15 rank Opus 2636 pipe organ built by the Austin Organ Company of Hartford, Connecticut. It was originally installed at the James Street United Methodist Church in Syracuse, NY in 1979. It was relocated and installed at St. Patrick Church in 2018 by the Muller Pipe Organ Company of Croton, OH. Though a small instrument, it makes an impressionable sound in the fine acoustics of St. Patrick Church. In addition, the instrument is flexible, accommodating much of the repertoire. With its clarity of speech and ability to render counterpoint clearly, it is especially suited to Baroque repertoire, but with its rich 8’ palette, also furnishes Romantic repertoire effectively. It is situated in a rear gallery and has a comfortable console with modern amenities, including a Peterson system for recording/playback.
