Does anyone know of a good version of the Angelus in English?

    Hello I'm in an Ordinariate Evensong group; we chant the office according to St. Dunstan's plainsong Psalter (Albeit with a few text edits to make it align with DWDO NAE). St. Dunstan's does not include any setting for the Angelus to be chanted in english. I have heard it done and seen such even on youtube; but I cannot manage to find any chant music for it. I was wondering if anyone could help me find where to find it set in english? Preferably it'd be square notes, but it's perfectly fine if it uses "normal" staff music.

    What parish are you attached to? I work at St. Aelred in Georgia, which is also an Ordinariate parish.

    I'm actually at an Ordinary Form Parish but was granted permission to start an evensong group which meets at the parish.

    We sang this unnacompanied in parts at Spode Music Week 2024, at noon before Mass from Divine Worship. Our Ordinariate group also sings it with organ in unison after Mass.

    Ah - I see it's already been posted above! This attachment has the organ part, too.

    I've been enjoying the Anglo Catholic setting. A friend who is way better at square notation than me converted it into square notes. We prefer to use those since it saves space on packets. Here it is.

    Your version isn't wrong, OrdinariateCATHOLIC, but it misses the Ordinariate-appropriate blend of Anglican and Roman Chant in the English version.

    It's not so much that it needs to be changed - what you give certainly works - as much as the refrain begs organ accompaniment, or better still to be chanted in four parts (like Anglican chant).

    The Angelus is being done right before a recitation of the Ordinariate office. We're chanting in plainsong and it's in a parish which has no prior experience with chant; for those purposes does it seem good or would anyone have suggestions for modifications?

    There's nothing wrong in principle, and it's good to hear your plans. Some points of detail might usefully be observed in the transcription:

    Compound neumes have been used over multiple syllables, where a seperate neume for each would be usual. See:
    - 'tidings' and 'Holy Ghost' in the opening versicle & response
    - 'Amen' at the end of the 'Hail Mary'
    - 'According' in 'be it unto me according'
    - 'into' in 'grace into our hearts'
    - 'angel' in 'message of an angel'
    - 'resurrection' in 'glory of his resurrection'
    - the final 'Amen'

    'among' in 'dwelt among us' is missing a note for the first syllable. The gabc should be: 'a(f)mong(fe)'.

    It would be good to have a double bar line at the end.

    There are colored full stops (periods) in places.

    "Mary" has two syllables, hence two notes.

    I would also consider a Do clef on the top line moving it up the staff accordingly. Everything still fits on the staff or close to it, but it makes better use of the space. IOW better an upper reciting tone of Re than the lower Fa imho.

    I am partial to the Charpentier Angelus. It's quite lovely.
    I've set the English text to it and we often use it to chant the Angelus.

    This is the CCWatershed edition, from which I used the chant to set the English text for my own usage.
