For reasons that are too pedantic to outline here and now, I'm assembling a list of any "ancient" hymnody one could find in The Hymnal 1940. I'm focusing mostly on the texts themselves coming from the early Church (not the Medieval period). Before I do the leg work and deep-diving myself, I wanted to check here and see if someone more intensely familiar with the 1940 than I had any suggestions for hymns that might fit that bill.
