It is confusing as to whether you want 'baroque-style' or 'more modern' works.

Try looking at Denis Bédard's compositions. His Postlude on Woodlands has a Baroque-ish fugue.

Dr Kris Rizzotto just posted a rather delightful Trio on Here I Am, Lord, and has plenty of other hymn-related pieces in various styles.

Well, sometimes great fun steps over a philosophical point of departure… I would never create a higher form of art based on something that doesn’t aspire to a higher form. (Perhaps it’s just the stodgy curmudgeon that lives within me.) perhaps a better way to express my sentiment would be … seems like pouring a fine wine over ice cubes.
