    Your composition really captures the text quite well. Is the beginning purposely hinting at Danse Macabre?

    It struck me as just a good, controllable/predictable canon theme. I don’t mean that as a slight; but you can often tell a fugal theme the moment it starts, and certain things work better than others, and that’s how it struck me. (Incidentally, you’ll note that Saint Sæns treats his similar theme fugally as well.)

    Just got to listen to the Danse. I see a similarity, but no, this is not taken from or inspired by SS. I do not like SS as I don’t like Beethoven or Mozart (except for amusements here and there) this melody is inspired by a chordal progression which is obvious and plays entirely to the text.

    The only SS I ever remotely cared for was his “aquarium” which I think became popular (appropriately) through disney (beauty and the beast?) if I am not mistaken.
