    Charles, I doubt anyone objects to the masters that followed in his stead. Overexposure to anything breeds contempt. (But it is telling that Mendelssohn, Mozart, Schumann, Beethoven, and many more studied his music faithfully.)

    I know they did. So did Widor. I had so much German Baroque thrown at me in college I looked forward to playing something else. At the time, it seemed every AGO concert had the same few pieces. I moved into the French literature and actually like it quite well.

    I highly recommend “L’organiste” by Cesar Franck. A collection of fifty-nine liturgically based meditations that are quite easy to memorize. There’s almost “one for every occasion” that can be used throughout the liturgical year.

    I have a short collection of Louis Dornel's work. Short pieces, not all appropriate for Communion, but certainly serviceable.
