Reviving a Casavant

    This Dominican shrine of St. Anne in Fall River, MA, closed its upper church in 2015 and closed altogether in 2018, but the lay association working to preserve it accomplished a fine thing this week when they presented a "virtual organ recital" from the upper church, on the 1964 Casavant, once dedicated in a Langlais recital, that has been silent for five years.

    What a beautiful church! Too bad it closed. Perhaps the FSSP or ICKSP, or similar could take care of it, and give it some new life.

    It was only totally closed for about seven months; in July 2019 the bishop authorized a lay group to watch over it, raise funds for its restoration, and keep it open daily as a place of prayer. Also, special groups come there to hold Masses in the lower church a few days a month. Because of safety concerns, the upper church is not open for services.

    Thanks for the heads-up. I think many of us thought the church was permanently closed and the organ was not in good shape. I'm glad for this, and also glad they are on social media now.
