    Not much material on which to comment - but, I have to ask, why not write for a full SATB choir if orchestral forces are involved?

    That motif you see in the strings IS the melody I plan to use. I'll write more later and update accordingly

    Double bass is never notated at sounding pitch without an accompanying written explanation.

    Richard is right, the double bass is a transposing instrument (down an octave from written pitch), so one uses the 8vb bass clef for notation.
