    Hi everybody, I'm working on a project and I need your help. I'm surveying my general Catholic public communities with this question:
    If you had to ask a specialist in Sacred Music ONE question, what would it be?

    But what I want to know from you is this: what questions do you think people SHOULD be asking about sacred music?

    In two sentences, can you outline the entire repertoire of authentic sacred music that is best suited to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass?

    The place to begin is: 'What is your philosophy (theology?) of sacred music?'
    Maybe prior to the above one should ask: 'Are you a devout Catholic?'

    Yes, that's exactly my point. Once we identify what Traditional Catholic music means, the person compiling results will know how to rate/disaggregate the information.

    With "traditional" already vague enough, it behooves one to wonder what kind of Catholic music is meant -- liturgical? devotional? etc.

    In a world full of people (and clerics - who are, be it noted, quite human) who cluelessly believe (or tenaciously insist) that the pop music up with which they grew is both 'Catholic' and 'traditional', using the words 'Catholic' and 'traditional' is meaningless. One must state specific genres.

    Gregorian Chant, Polyphony (preferably using the text of the propers), Organ Music (preferentially deferring to that which is composed for the purpose of the worship of God)
