I am dusting off another one of my hymns from a dark corner in my hard drive. Thoughts about text, harmony? How far into the land of musical dross does a 9-8 suspension over IV kick a piece?

This is really good.
An original, sensitive, and imaginative tune.

I do have trouble making sense of 'offr'est upon a tree so long ago on Calvary'. The syntax here is somewhat skewed.

I'm aware of how late these remarks are, but overall this is very good. I think the problem Jackson pointed out can be fixt with 'gavest'. I suggest you place this tune higher for congregational use. (Your sopranos are singing B ♭4s and your basses are singing E ♭2s.) If it's transposed it to C, your descent is to high. Without descant, here's my suggestions.

Was the decision to use the long "e" vowel as the rhyme agent for each line, all verses, a deliberate one?
