Feast of St. Gregory the Great

    Today is the feast of St. Gregory the Great, according to the Traditional Calendar. Does anyone know why his day was moved to September 3rd in the current calendar? I realize he died on March 12th, and he was elected on September 3rd, but why make the switch? No one else takes this day in the Ordinary calendar. Were they trying to move important Saints out of Lent?

    Maybe to move it outside Lent? for a better party?

    Gregory's commentary on Job is certainly good Lenten reading.

    I was wondering why the feast of Sts. Felicitas and Perpetua were moved one day March 6 to 7. What's the point of that? It's like the post-Vatican II concilium just couldn't help themselves.

    I would love it if they moved St. Patrick's day to a season when parade marchers don't have to worry about snow or disciplinary inhibitions to partying.

    Yes, you are right. Usually concilium in Latin is the group of people and consilium is the plan they put forward. Thanks!

    Basically yes.

    Check the norms on the Liturgical Year at the beginning of the Missal, § 56 f).
