    Someone should write this counterpart

Up through the clouds the Lord ascends.

Chuck, how about a little clue about your tune? I keep humming it, but I just can't place it.

    Here's another:

    D F# G E D F# A B A

    ROCKINGHAM

CHGiffen—I second the request for clue! It has been driving me crazy. My first guess was that it was some Lutheran chorale tune, similar to VON HIMMEL HOCH. Probably not even close!

    Salieri—
The first is THREE KINGS OF ORIENT, aka "We Three Kings", yes?

And the second is the same melody in d minor with a pick up? Is it another tune that I should know? A mode 2 chant melody? Am confused!

    Speaking of which:

    A A A A D F E D

    (Hope I got that right)

Here's more, the first three lines:

    C B A G F E A A G
    C B A G F E A A G
    G A B C E D C (or G A B C D E D C B C, if you want to be fancy!)

This one is not a German chorale tune:

    C E G G G G A B- B- A ("-" means "flat")

Yes on the first one. Lol.

The second one is chant, but I won't say which, yet.

Tricky! I started by trying to make a chant tune out of it. But, then I played with the rhythm, and:

MCKEE "In Christ there is no East or West"

Still working on the other one! (and resisting the temptation to just start digging through hymnals)!

    Salieri—

I'm going to be obsessed with this for a while! Now that I know it's a chant it's beginning to seem familiar. I'm sure someone will know!

The tune is prominent (the fancy version) in one of Bach's masterpieces.

Got it! Herzlich Lieb hab ich dich, o Herr (which concludes the St. John Passion!) I wasn't hearing the harmony
