"Fun" or "funny" Latin songs

    I've been working for a few months in a new situation, with the usual happy mandate to bring back chant and Latin without annoying anyone ;)

    For the Christmas pageant, one of the ways I made progress was by assigning two classes, who have a lot of humor, with "fun" or "funny" songs.

    One young class, full of little jokes, sang Resonet in Laudibus. They "got" it right away, especially the rhythm change in the "Gaudete" section.

    Another class, full of energy and high spirits, sang the macaronic In Dulci Iubilo with great gusto.

    I'm interested to know of more Latin songs, Christmas or otherwise, that lend themselves to joy, energy, chutzpah--that sort of thing.

    A friend of mine recently produced this translation of a classic:
    Me amare Dominum
    Dicit Evangelium.
    Custos parvulorum est;

    Secundum Scripturas.


    Lots of fun and chutzpah, though I'm not sure how helpful with chant.

    Obviously, Gaudete, Christus est Natus from Piae Cantiones.

    My brother (Catholic MD in Florida) reports he has done this to great success with his children's choir.

    If Resonet in Laudibus is the kind of thing you need, how about Adeste Fideles; and the Laudes Festivae by Beat Reiser OSB (in the musicasacra.com Book PDF section IIRC) contains many of this kind in the Cantarium part.

    Thou that art so fair and bright -- intermixed Latin and English. Most child-friendly version in St. Basil's Hymnal. One page. Easily learned and taught. Latin/English division allows you to divide into two groups, or vary volume, or .... I think you get the idea.
