Fee for a contractor?

What percentage should a contractor get? I mean, I asked the local brass professor to take care of hiring for Easter brass players for me, and I figured he should get a fee for doing the extra work. Thoughts?
  • Most here ask for 10% of the total stipends paid to the instrumentalists.

I know three contractors, and they all charge a flat $25 per person hired.

In some situations, a contractor is paid the rate of one performer; for a small event, that might be out of proportion.

Here they get nothing just for that; they are usually one of the instrumentalists to be hired, so they get that, but the gig is contingent on them finding three other people to play with.

Sometimes these things are handled less formally, on a favors system. Asking a musician to do a gig is like handing him/her cash, so the contractor is sort of owed a favor by everybody, which can either be evened out with a stipend or just informally banked, so to speak.

Yes, that, or they may have a paternal interest, such as in the case of a teacher for a studio who wants to help their students get jobs.
