Does anyone know of a hymn in honor of St John Vianney? With his feast day coming up, our seminarians want to sing something special for this occasion, but we do not know where to look for this hymn and we would need to have the music as well so that they can start practicing it.

We would be very grateful to anyone who is able to help us out here, or to direct us to a web site which may have this particular hymn or hymns.

This is the only one I've been able to find:

It's to the tune "Picardy", which you probably have in your hymnal.

Here's my goopy little versification of St. John Vianney's prayer. (I should have been a Victorian lady, because this is the kind of thing that comes out when I try to write hymns.) Definitely not a seminarian song!

    Te amo, Deus meus,
All I want till my death
Is this only: to love You
    Until my final breath.
    Te amo, Deus meus,
    And I rather would die
Than live one day without You,
For that would not be life.

    Te amo, Deus meus,
    I desire only
    To have Heaven, because there
    I'll love You perfectly.
    Te amo, Deus meus,
Hell is all that I fear.
Since the damned love no longer,
I could not love you there.

    Te amo, Deus meus,
    Every moment, each day.
Since I can't say it every breath,
I want my heart to say
    Te amo, Deus meus.
I ask Your grace to bring
    Suffering while I love You,
    And love while suffering.

    Te amo, Deus meus.
    At my death, please impart
Grace to love You more to me,
And know love in my heart.
    Te amo, Deus meus,
All I want till my death
Is this only: to love You
    Until my my final breath.

Just wanted to bump this in case anyone has further suggestions. Vianney is the secondary patron of our diocese, so we have permission from the ordinary to celebrate this as a Sunday Mass next week. Any help with hymns would be great!

Office Hymn for Pastors, for a Priest

Come let us raise our songs of celebration,
Joining the triumph train of this confessor,
Father and leader, now above the heavens
    Reigning forever.

Priest of the Church, a leader and a teacher,
Sanctity plain in all his words and actions,
He strove to please God, generous in service,
    And with a pure heart.

Now let us ask him earnestly for favor:
    Cleansing of all the sins of his beloved;
And by his fervent prayers may we be lifted
    To the high heavens.

Glory and power, praises in the highest,
to the one God, and honor everlasting,
for His dominion, orderly and lawful,
    governs creation.

    Iesu, Redemptor omnium
    8th c. Hymn, confessors

O Jesus, Ransom of us all
Receive our voices when we call,
    Eternal Crown, in mercy giv’n
To all the citizens of heaven.

This day he shone in lasting fame,
    confessor of your holy name,
    the people praise him joyfully
    in annual solemnity

When through this world his pathway led
    He calmly walked, serenely tread.
His steps were sure and ever true,
On his salvation path to you

As he surrendered not his heart
to this world’s joys nor things that part,
now with the angels in the skies
he holds in joy the heav’nly prize.

    In tender mercy, Lord, assent
That we may follow where he went,
and in his steps, your servants win
forgiveness from their guilt of sin.

We praise you, Christ, our loving King,
And to your Father glory sing
Whom with the Spirit we adore
    Forever and forevermore.

If you're posting from a PC (not a phone), you'll see the option to attach a file, which you can use to add a PDF file or an image fille in GIF, JPG, or PNG format. Before uploading, make sure the file name does not contain spaces. Some punctuation marks can be trouble, too, so you may need to avoid those.
  • In a faithless time of torpor,
    John Vianney loved the Lord,
Preached the truth with ceaseless fervor,
Led his flock by deed and word,
    And by his example fearless
Caused our God to be adored.

    Lovingly he coaxed the sinner
    To submit to Jesus’ way;
    In humility and patience
To his Lord he knelt to pray
    And, obedient to his calling,
    Lived his teaching ev’ry day.

    To the Trinity give glory,
    Father, Son, and Paraclete:
Those on earth with those in heaven
    Joining in one anthem sweet:
As the saints on earth gave witness,
Let us each our course complete!
