Is "Of the Father's Love Begotten" appropriate for Advent? And while I have this question up, do you have suggestions for Advent hymns that are not considered for Advent? "Tell Out My Soul" comes to mind.
  • Canadash,

Unless you have an edited edition, I can't think of an objection off the top of my head.

    Cheers,

    Chris

In the Liber Hymnarius, it is given as the Hymn at 1st and 2nd Vespers for the Octave of Christmas. My impression is that it is considered appropriate for the Christmas season and not inappropriate for Advent (or at least the latter part thereof).

  • "All Are Welcome" seems to be the first suggestion in some planning resources regardless of the date, time or season.

Lo, How a Rose lends itself to both seasons well.

  • I can't see it as an Advent hymn. The stanzas of all the centos in common use are definitely Christmas and Nativity in theme. Unless you are doing an Advent Lessons and Carols (or some such) that moves from prophecy to incarnation, I would be loathe to 'use it up' before Christmastide.

I'm with MJO. There's nothing Adventy about it, to me.
  • Same here. I think it's Christmasy.

I like MJO's way of putting it:
I would be loathe to 'use it up' before Christmastide.
