Virus on this site?
  • Something is weird with this site. Yesterday and today, when I come here on two different computers, I'm getting messages like "Internet Explorer has blocked this site from downloading files to your computer" and other similar ones.

Is there a virus somehow on this site?

The only thing I get is a message at the bottom of the screen that reads, "Do you want to open or save analytics.js from a.sitemeter.com?" I don't get that on any other site.

There were some bugs with sitemeter sometime back that were causing real problems. I thought those were either fixed, or had gone away. Maybe not. It isn't doing any damage on my end, it just won't go away until I move to another site.

    Stop using Internet Explorer.

Communist! LOL. BTW, Chrome says this site's security certificate is not trusted.
  • I've been getting those messages, too, but I'm just x'ing out and all seems to be well. Also, I tried going through Firefox and that seems to work a little better than Internet Explorer.

This site doesn't use any certificates directly. The web gizmos that handle our stats (Sitemeter, Google Analytics) may do so.

Note: Some users are experiencing certificate warnings because the time or date on their system is incorrect. If you're getting the warnings, check your system clock and correct it if necessary.

The clock is fine, and the certificate warnings only appear when using Chrome. In IE, no certificate warnings, just the annoying sitemeter box at the bottom of every page.

If you know how to make a screenshot illustrating the problem, post one.

I have a screen shot, just can't seem to paste it here. If you have an e-mail, I will send as a Word doc or a picture.

I had the sitemeter thing keep popping up at work on both IE and Chrome. Windows 8.

No prob in Firefox at home, if that helps.

Charles, you can e-mail it to chonak@yahoo.com. An image file (PNG, JPEG, GIF) would be the best format.

    OK:

There are a lot of web sites reporting this behavior with Sitemeter at present. Apparently Sitemeter rolled out some change to their system without adequately testing it with Internet Explorer. Other common browsers (Chrome, Firefox) don't report the spurious security warning.

To obviate the warning, I have disabled Sitemeter on this site for now.

    Rejoice and be glad.
