Canadian Glory to God
  • Who is using the Canadian missal's Glory to God?

When and how often? With or without accompaniment? How well received has it been?

We use it at some of our Masses. The people like it well as far as I know.
  • We used it for one of our Sunday Masses for about six months with accompaniment when we introduced the chant settings earlier this year. The chant settings didn't catch on so our DOM switched mass settings (too early in my estimation). For a weekday mass I handle on my own, I use the chant settings with the Canadian Glory to God, if a solemnity happens to fall on that day.

AJ, what Gloria do you use for Sunday Masses now?
  • We have been using the Dawson and are starting to use the Angeles. I feel that our parish should have exposure to all the approved Canadian settings and then we'll explore other possibilities.
  • Hi - I used this with an organ accompaniment for the first year of the revised missal. I believe we were the only parish in the diocese to use this setting; our diocese did not dictate what to use so things are quite diverse from parish to parish – i.e. a variety of OCP/GIA/Celebrate in Song settings.

How was it received? It was mixed – some really liked it and some did not. Sometimes it worked well and sometimes it fell apart - it really depended on who was there to sing along. My parish situation FWIW: small rural, no choir, 40-50 people on Sunday, I’m the volunteer organist/cantor.

After one year I decided to switch to a metrical setting and we are using the Heritage Mass Gloria - people picked it up quickly and really like it plus it is through composed; we will use it for another year at least. I would use the CDN missal Gloria again if I can get a choir started; I quite like it and thought it would be easy for people to sing along but some found it tricky.
